I’m no book critic. Neither is my 3-year old son, Zachary. But we both love Shiver Me Letters: A Pirate ABC, a children’s story about a captain of a pirate ship ordering his crew to find him the entire alphabet.
We’ve been reading this book almost daily for the past two months now.
Three reasons why we love Shiver Me Letters:
My 3-year old, at lunch time, takes his spoon and digs deep into his sandwich, spilling the bacon or whatever is in his sandwich all over the kitchen table and floor. I tell him not to play with his food. I’m a little angry. He gives me the look then tells me, “But Daddy, X marks the spot, remember?”
My 3-year old cries when he feels frustrated. Lately, he’s been able to control himself. Instead of crying, he roars a loud and shivering “R.”
My 3-year old, when asked nowadays what his name is, will—without hesitation—answer, “Z.”
