Three things I've learned (so far) about little boys

  • No matter how much you tell them not to touch anything inside a store, they'll ignore you and touch anyway.

  • No matter how careful you are in steering them away from toy guns, they'll find a way to craft one from everyday stuff—like that cardboard inside a paper towel roll, the one you hope they'll use as a telescope but end up as being the most powerful (and loudest, I must add) boom-boom gun in the whole wide world, as how my 5-year old puts it.

  • No matter how much they fight and tease each other, they'll still be the best of friends at the end of the day (or ten seconds, give or take 5 seconds, after each fight).

How about you? What have you learned (so far) about your little ones?

I absolutely agree with you on the gun thing.

I've also learned that they take in a great deal of information when it appears they're not paying attention.

Big boys touch stuff in shops too

Its amazing how fast gun play or make up gun play at least begins to occur if they have an older brother our 2 year old already goes round the house "shooting" people

I concur with your facts.

Another, if it has been hot, dry and 100 degrees outside for ten days straight, a boy WILL find a mud puddle.

And brothers may call one another horrid names and smack one another, but whoa unto anyone else who dares.

I have three girls and love reading about your adorable boys. I must say that all kids have amazing mess making abilities, regardless of gender. Before I can clean the kitchen and move onto the playroom, they are back in the kitchen messing!

I agree with you, especially the one about teasing one another. Boys are, well just boys!

I have a little girl (4yrs) who makes everything into guns or swords.....twigs, empty tp rolls, pvc piping, you name it!!! My two were cozied up on the couch last night, you'd never have known how they've fought during the day. (I should have taken a picture, but they probably would have moved by the time I got back w/camera!!!)

Oh no, it's not just boys who touch when told not to - it's my girlies, too!

1. Tights do not go in the dryer.
2. Not all girls want to wear dresses.
3. Hot water for blood stains, cold water for #2 accident stains.
4. Don't wash velour dresses ... ever.
5. There's more to life than laundry but I'm not exactly sure how much more ;)

Each time before he baths, my son will scream from the bathroom "Do I have to wash my hair?" even if this is for the hundredth time. Talk about irritating.

I agree with your comments. I've never even mentioned guns, but he knows about them. Also they will love "boy" things. I never introduced him to "typical" boy things but there he is vrooming cars at 6 months old.
