Keeping my word

I'm on the second day of my 3-day no-Coke diet. Here's why:

"Daddy," my 5-year old said two days ago. "You drink too much Coke."

I nodded. Then I took another sip of my nth Coke of the day.

"You should not drink Coke for five days," my 5-year old added. His face showed a little irritation.

"Five days?" I asked. "How about one day?"

"How about three days?" my 5-year old said. He was negotiating.

"OK."

I agreed for two reasons. It tells my 5-year old that his word matters to me. It also tells him that I could keep my word.

"So what will be my reward if I don't drink Coke for three days?" I asked.

My 5-year old showed me his thinking face. Then he said, "Coke. Lots and lots of Coke."

You never know, you might just make it to day three and not "need" it so bad. We gave up soda about a month ago (Except for an odd treat). Way to keep your word!

Good for you! I have given up soda (except for an occasional treat) and caff coffee in this past month. Talk about HARD!

My daughter told me the other day, "Mommy, you don't need any more shoes. You have too many shoes already."

Ooops.

so are you counting down? Are you drinking diet coke or regular? many regulars would give you way too much sugar....although the stuff in diet coke is probably not the best for us either.

i'd have difficulty with such a diet :). good luck in keeping your word!

Good for you! how sweet that you are doing this!

that'll work

Great reward!!

These stories always make me chuckle.

I gotta say, it's not the grown up way to think, but I like your kid's style. :) I tend to think on those terms too. Two weeks without carbs begets a weekend chock-full of carbs.

Also, I think it's awesome that you're doing this. Well, I say doing... this is an older post, so what I mean to say is, I think it's AWESOME that you did this.

Ha ha ha...no wonder you're staying true to your promise.
